During your application process, please note that GRI does not charge any agency or placement fees.

Cadidates are responsible for completing and obtaining certain documents, that are manditory and required prior to joining a vessel.

After you are successfully hired by a cruise line company, we will then be able to assist and guide you through the process of obtaining your pre-joining documents.

The costs will be explained to you in detail, in the interview process with the recruitment team at GRI

Here are some tips to help you avoid falling victim to a cruise ship job scam.



Legitimate Cruise Ship Recruiters WILL NOT:

Ask for money or fees from applicants to be able to apply for a job.
Collect money in advance for uniforms or medical expenses.
Ask you to pay for an immigration lawyer to process a work permit.
Send emails offering a job before a full job interview in person or over the Phone, Skype or Zoom.
Approach candidates on social media (with an exception of LinkedIn) and never ask for personal details to be sent to them on Social Media or messenger apps such as WhatsApp or Viber.

Medical Process

This entails several different appointments. We will guide you through this.
You will have to pay per appointment.
You can only process your medcal after you are successfully hired, and we have informed you to proceed with obtaining this.
Cost of medical +/_ R8000

Please Note: Only SOME Companies reimburse medical costs.

C1/D Visa

Cost ($185 USD), +/- R3500 * cost subject to change.
You will pay the US consulate directly to secure your visa appointment.
You may need to get an additional entry visa, depending on which country you join a ship.
We will guide you through this process.

This will be reimbursed with your first salary onboard. Important: keep all your slips and invoices.

Criminal Clearance

We can will refer you to apply at an electronic fingerprint agency, as when applying direclty at the SAPS Police station, it takes too long.
This must be a valid Criminal Clearance from the SAPS.
Costs vary and so please contact the agents directly for most up to date fee (+/- R200).

STCW – Basic Safety Training Certification

Some Companies require Basic Safety Training (STCW) before embarking.
Costs vary between R5000 – R15 000 depending on position/company.
We can refer you to a company to provide this training, if needed.

Flights & Travel Costs

All travel from your Gateway City will be provided by the Cruise Company; this will include your international flights; transfers and if require a stay-over accommodation prior to joining your vessel.
You will ideally arrive one day before in the city of your embarking vessel.
We will assist you every step of the way to ensure you arrive safely at the required destination.
